Upon the invitation on behalf of the Tunis National Preventive Mechanism (NPM) the Ombudswoman’s adviser from the Department for persons deprived of liberty and NPM Anica Tomšić Stojkovska participated at the international conference dedicated to the detentions’ over crowdedness and the role of national bodies for the prevention of torture, that took place in Tunis on 18-19 December 2018.
She presented the work, methodology and practice of the preventive visits to the crowded institutions as well as the implementation of recommendations for rectifying the situation in practice with the international standards. Anica Tomšić Stojkovska emphasised that the over crowdedness in detention facilities not only affect the inmates’ living conditions but also the health care, organisation of working and free time activities and contacts with family members.
