On June 14th 2018 the Croatian parliament has approved the 2017 Ombudswoman’s report with 114 yes votes, 3 against and 1 abstained. The report contains the analysis and assessment of the human rights situation in Croatia together with more than 200 recommendations for elimination of the systemic problems faced by the citizens. Most recommendations referred to the state administrative bodies, but also to the local and self-government units, professional associations, trade unions and others.
The constructive discussion held in the Parliament was mostly focused on those recommendations, as Ombudswoman Lora Vidović pleaded for in her address to MP’s on June 13th:
„I hope that the discussion will be focused on solutions, as a contribution to the positive changes which the citizens could feel in their everyday life – at work place, court halls, elderly homes, faculties, as well as the classrooms in which, as we speak, sit girls and boys who shall tomorrow sit in your and other places of crucial influence on the lives of all citizens in our country. Focusing on solutions in this discussion, I hope that we can show them that they should stay here; the message they do not get out of the unconstructive discussions, in the media and on social media“, she emphasised.
