Regional Office of the Ombudsman was opened on November 17th 2014 in Rijeka at Korzo 2a / I and it was an opportunity to present the work and role of the Ombudsman as a Commissioner of the Croatian Parliament for the promotion and protection of human rights and freedoms laid down in the Constitution, laws and international legal acts on human rights and freedoms adopted by the Republic of Croatia”.

On that occasion the Ombudswoman Lora Vidović, stressed: “In this way we want to be closer to the citizens, because their expectations of our institution are increasing due to our powers of protection and promotion of human rights, prevention of discrimination and our role as National Preventive Mechanism. Since we have only had office in Zagreb so far, many people who needed our help were not able complain and seek protection of their rights because of the distance, and in this way we will be more accessible to all. “

Besides the Ombudswoman Lora Vidovic, the first public presentation of the Office was attended by Fani Bugarin Šoljan on behalf of Centre for Civic Initiatives from Poreč- regional antidiscrimination contact point of the Ombudsman, MP and Chairman of the Committee on Human and National Minority Rights Furio Radin, the Mayor of Rijeka Vojko Obersnel and the Perfect of Primorje- Gorski Kotar County Zlatko Komadina.

Presentation of the Office for the wide range of stakeholders was held at the premises of the City Hall in Rijeka, where the opening was welcomed by the Deputy Prefect of Istria County Viviana Benussi and the Perfect of Lika Milan Kolić.
