As part of the study visit to the Republic of Croatia by the Tajik Human Rights Commissioner, Umed Bobozoda, and his associates—representatives of the Office of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan and civil society organizations—the Ombudswoman Tena Šimonović Einwalter hosted the delegation on 8 and 10 May.
During the meeting, which was attended by the Ombudswoman, Deputy Ombudswoman Tatjana Vlašić, and the advisors of the Ombudswoman, Ms. Šimonović Einwalter presented the mandates, competences, and working methods of our institution, with a particular focus on the role as the central body for combating discrimination.
Namely, following the adoption of the Law on Combating Discrimination at the national level in Tajikistan last year, the competences of the Tajik Ombudsman were expanded. One of the aims of the working visit to Croatia was therefore to strengthen the capacities of the Tajik Ombudsman institution in the field of combating discrimination.
We exchanged experiences with our colleagues on the establishment of the system for combating discrimination in the Republic of Croatia, the challenges in the implementation of the Law, and cooperation with civil society in areas related to the mandates of the Ombudswoman.
During his stay in Croatia, the Human Rights Commissioner from Tajikistan also met with the Ombudswomen for Persons with Disabilities, Gender Equality, and Children, as well as with representatives of the Human Rights Coordination of the City of Zagreb, the Gender Equality Committee of the City of Zagreb, the Office for Human Rights and the Rights of National Minorities, the Office for Gender Equality of the Government of the Republic of Croatia, the Ministry of Justice and the Judicial Academy, and civil society organizations active in the field of anti-discrimination.
