Ombudswoman Lora Vidović and associates on 8th-9th February 2018 visited Međimurje County, where they met with various stakeholders and citizens in Čakovec, Vratišinec, Nedelišće, Mala Subotica, and in Roma settlements Parag and Piškorovec.
At the beginning they met NGO and national minorities’ representatives and during a two-day visit they held meetings, among others, with County Prefect Matija Posavec, Čakovec Deputy Mayor Zoran Vidović, Head of the Čakovec Centre for Social Care Alenka Bilić and Chief Međimurje Police Administration Ivan Sokač, and their associates.
The Ombudswoman also discussed human rights and discrimination issues with the Grammar School Josip Slavenski students and during almost two hours, she introduced the practice, mandates and activities of the ombudsman’s institution, which was followed by a lively discussion.
Field visit to Međimurje County is a continuation of the practice by which the Ombudswoman and her associates raise awareness on the state of human rights and occurrence of discrimination in Croatia, in particular of the rural population. This activity has been so far organised for Požega-Slavonija County, Osijek–Baranja County, counties of Zadar, Vukovar-Srijem and Brod-Posavlje and shall be practiced in 2018 too.
