Ombudswoman Tena Šimonović Einwalter has taken up the post of one of two Vice-Chairs of the Council of Europe’s European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI). This human rights monitoring body consists of independent experts representing each of the 47 CoE member states. In her capacity as an expert in the field of anti-discrimination, Šimonović Einwalter has heretofore served as Chair of the ECRI’s Working Group for the Drafting of the General Policy Recommendation No. 2 on the Standards for Equality Bodies, member of CoE’s Ad hoc Committee on Artificial Intelligence (CAHAI) and as ECRI’s Bureau member.

ECRI was established in 1994 and specializes in combatting racism, discrimination on the grounds of race, ethnic/national origin, skin color, citizenship, religion, language, sexual orientation and gender identity, as well as xenophobia, antisemitism and intolerance in Europe. Its work is based on the European Convention on Human Rights, other protocols and accompanying case law. Along with its General Policy Recommendations addressed at all CoE member states, it publishes country reports on the status of human rights and discrimination in the areas covered by its mandates and issues country-specific recommendations.
