The diversity of religious communities is one of the strengths of a pluralistic society, and freedom of religion is guaranteed by the Constitution and international human rights instruments. This is also emphasized by Religious Freedom Day, which is observed in Croatia on the last Saturday of January.

Freedom of religion includes the right of every individual to believe, to change their faith, and to express their personal religious beliefs, either individually or in a community with others. It also guarantees the right of non-religious individuals not to believe or to continue seeking their own beliefs.

Furthermore, the prohibition of discrimination based on religion means that no one should be placed at a disadvantage or harassed because of their religious beliefs, nor because they do not believe or are seeking their own beliefs.

Religious Freedom Day was established by the International Religious Liberty Association (IRLA), a non-governmental organization with consultative status at the UN, UNESCO, and the Council of Europe.
