To mark the National Day for Combatting Violence against Women, a symbolic event was held in the Croatian Parliament, organised by the Parliamentary Committee on Gender Equality.<\/p>\n
During the event, Members of Parliament left orange-coloured handprints on a large canvas to symbolically send the message: \u201cStop violence against women!\u201d<\/p>\n
Alongside Members of Parliament, Ombudswoman Tena \u0160imonovi\u0107 Einwalter joined the event in her capacity as the commissioner of the Croatian Parliament for the protection and promotion of human rights, and as the head of Croatia\u2019s central equality body.<\/p>\n
The National Day for Combatting Violence against Women is observed on 22 September each year to raise awareness of the unacceptability of all forms of violence against women, and in remembrance of the tragic event that occurred on 22 September 1999, when three women were killed and a court employee seriously injured during divorce proceedings at the Municipal Court in Zagreb.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
