{"id":21473,"date":"2024-10-18T10:51:25","date_gmt":"2024-10-18T08:51:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ombudsman.hr\/en\/?p=21640"},"modified":"2025-07-10T10:52:50","modified_gmt":"2025-07-10T08:52:50","slug":"the-ombudswoman-presented-the-institution-s-work-with-the-most-vulnerable-citizens-at-the-council-of-europe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ombudsman.hr\/en\/the-ombudswoman-presented-the-institution-s-work-with-the-most-vulnerable-citizens-at-the-council-of-europe\/","title":{"rendered":"The Ombudswoman Presented the Institution\u2019s Work with the Most Vulnerable Citizens at the Council of Europe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">Ombudswoman Tena \u0160imonovi\u0107 Einwalter participated on 17 October 2024 in Strasbourg in a meeting of national human rights institutions and equality bodies with the newly appointed Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, Michael O\u2019Flaherty.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">At the invitation of the organisers, Ombudswoman \u0160imonovi\u0107 Einwalter moderated a panel titled \u201cEnhancing Engagement of Equality Bodies with the Most Vulnerable Citizens.\u201d On that occasion, she first provided an introductory explanation of the importance of these institutions having direct access to the most vulnerable citizens, and then presented the work of the Office of the Ombudswoman as an example of good practice. She informed the participants about the institution\u2019s activities, including conducting research on experiences of discrimination, visits to care homes for the elderly, rural areas, earthquake-affected areas, Roma settlements, asylum seeker reception centres, and others, as well as the establishment of a network of anti-discrimination contact points.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">These activities ensure the Ombudswoman\u2019s accessibility to the most vulnerable, which is essential for enabling citizens in the most difficult circumstances to seek protection of their violated rights. Furthermore, through the Ombudswoman\u2019s efforts, they can become more visible and heard in public and before decision-makers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">The meeting was attended by 35 national human rights institutions and equality bodies, which are both mandates of the Office of the Ombudswoman.
