{"id":10925,"date":"2021-03-19T15:05:08","date_gmt":"2021-03-19T13:05:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ombudsman.hr\/en\/?p=10925"},"modified":"2021-03-19T17:25:16","modified_gmt":"2021-03-19T15:25:16","slug":"tena-simonovic-einwalter-appointed-as-the-new-ombudswoman-of-the-republic-of-croatia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ombudsman.hr\/en\/tena-simonovic-einwalter-appointed-as-the-new-ombudswoman-of-the-republic-of-croatia\/","title":{"rendered":"Tena \u0160imonovi\u0107 Einwalter Appointed as the new Ombudswoman of the Republic of Croatia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At its plenary session held on 19 March 2021 by a majority of 115 votes for, the Croatian Parliament appointed Tena \u0160imonovi\u0107 Einwalter as the new Ombudswoman of the Republic of Croatia for a term of eight years.<\/p>\n<p>The Ombudswoman of the Republic of Croatia is a commissioner of the Croatian Parliament responsible for the promotion and protection of human rights and freedoms, the performance of the mandates of the National Equality Body, the National Preventive Mechanism for the protection of the persons deprived of their liberty, as well as of the mechanism for the external reporting of irregularities in line with the Whistleblowers\u2019 Protection Act. She is independent and autonomous in her work, regulated by the the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ombudsman.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Constitution-of-the-Republic-of-Croatia.pdf\">Constitution of the Republic of Croatia<\/a>, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ombudsman.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/The-Ombudsman-Act-2.pdf\">Ombudsman Act<\/a>, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ombudsman.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Anti-discrimination-Act.pdf\">Anti-discrimination Act<\/a>,\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ombudsman.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Act-on-the-National-Preventive-Mechanism-1.pdf\">Act on the National Preventive Mechanism<\/a> and the Act on the Protection of Persons Reporting Irregularities.<\/p>\n<p>More information on the Ombudswoman\u2019s mandates and competences is available <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ombudsman.hr\/en\/frequently-asked-questions\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Tena \u0160imonovi\u0107 Einwalter is the fifth serving Ombudsperson since the establishment of the institution in 1990. In 2003 she graduated <em>magna cum laude<\/em> from the University of Zagreb\u2019s Faculty of Law and in 2005 was awarded with a diploma from the International Institute of Human Rights in Strasbourg. In 2007 she received her Master\u2019s degree in European and Comparative Law from the Faculty of Law, University of Oxford and in 2013 a Master\u2019s degree in International Relations from the Faculty of Political Science, University of Zagreb.<\/p>\n<p>As an expert in the area of combating discrimination she is currently serving as the representative of the Republic of Croatia before the Council of Europe\u2019s European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) and chairs the Executive Board of the European Network of Equality Bodies (EQUINET) in her second two-year term after being reappointed to that position in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to her appointment, \u0160imonovi\u0107 Einwalter served as the Deputy Ombudswoman for Ombudswoman Lora Vidovi\u0107, whose <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ombudsman.hr\/en\/en-2013-2021\/\">eight-year mandate <\/a>expired in February 2021.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At its plenary session held on 19 March 2021 by a majority of 115 votes for, the Croatian Parliament appointed Tena \u0160imonovi\u0107 Einwalter as the new Ombudswoman of the Republic of Croatia for a term of eight years.
