Citizens of the South of Croatia welcomed with trust the opening of the Split Regional Office of the Ombudswoman of Croatia – the institution in charge of human rights protection and promotion and combatting discrimination. This can be gleaned from the fact that the Ombudswoman was contacted by a total of 54 citizens during the Split Office’s first week of operation.
„I am glad that the citizens of Dalmatia have given us their vote of confidence and have recognized in us an institution that can help them protect their human rights in many situations they have heretofore considered hopeless. Apart from their trust, their numbers speak of the need for our continuous presence in this part of the country in order for us to be more accessible to the citizens not living in the proximity of one of our other offices. That was our motivation for opening a third regional office, along with the existing ones in Rijeka and Osijek“, stated Ombudswoman Lora Vidović.
Assistance in the protection of their rights has heretofore been requested by the citizens of the towns of Split, Šibenik, Brač, Makarska and Knin, among others. They contacted [the new regional office] for various reasons, such as issues related to property rights, distraint and inheritance-related cases, problems related to labor legislation and legal protection of the family and many other matters.
We believe the citizens will continue to approach the office with trust, based on the fact that many of them have already arranged their appointments with the new regional office for the coming days.
